A practical guide
A five-minute quiet time with God
Start here
Use a few minutes to read a short passage, notice one detail, and write a brief prayer. This is a suggested routine, not a required length for prayer.
Read for two minutes
Read Psalm 23 slowly. Notice one image, such as the shepherd, still waters, or the table. The psalm includes difficulty as well as care, so avoid stopping only at the calmest picture.

Reflect for one minute
Write one thing the passage says and one question you have. For example: “The psalm speaks of presence in the valley. What does that image make me notice?” You can leave the question open.
Pray for two minutes
Respond in your own words. An original starting point is: “God, be with me in the part of today I find difficult.” If you have less time, shorten the routine. The clock is a practical aid, not a measure of sincerity.
Common questions
Must quiet time happen in the morning?
No. Choose a time when you can give the passage a little attention.
What if I only have two minutes?
Read a few lines and offer one sentence of prayer. Return to the rest when you can.
